Brief Profile
Shahabad Dugdh Utpadak Sahkari Sangh (SDUSS) was founded on the proud land of Shershah Suri and Veer Kunwar singh on 14th November, 1997. Having developed from a small chilling plant of only 20000 litres of capacity to a cooperative union capable of handling approximately 4 lakh liters of milk daily, SDUSS has come a long way. Under the guidance and coordination of COMFED, SDUSS has expanded its plant operations in all the districts of the Shahabad region to be able to cater to the procurement and processing needs of the Shahabad region.
Area of Operation
Shahabad Dugdh Utpadak Sahakari Sangh, fondly known as Ara Dairy in the Bhojpur region, has its area of operation across four districts, Bhojpur, Rohtas, Kaimur and Buxar. In order to promote the interests of milk producers throughout Shahabad region, cooperative societies have been created to the farthest of the villages of these districts
Infrastructure
Shahabad Sangh , located in Katira more, Ara, has three milk processing plants at Ara, Rohtas and Kaimur with combined processing capacity of 40000 liters of milk per day. A new milk processing plant is being constructed at Dehri -on-sone in Rohtas district and will have the capacity to process 500000 liters of milk per day. Thus, the total milk processing capacity will increase from 400000 liters of milk per day to 900000 liters per day. Dehri-on-sone plant is being developed as a specialized plant for wide variety of milk products ranging from the modern dairy product like cheese spread to the state vintage product like thekua.To ensure the availability of high-quality cattle feed, Shahabad union operates a new cattle feed plant in Bihiya with the capacity to produce 300 tons per day, from where farmers are receiving quality, protein-enriched cattle feed for their mulching animals
Procurement
Shahabad Sangh collects milk through society collection ceters across 550 villages of Bhojpur, Kaimur and Rohtas. The procurement is being done through 4193 cooperative societies. Shahabad has started its procurement from 23000 liters of milk per day and now it has reached approximately 235000 liters of milk per day. The total number of Shahabad union members has reached 271000 out of which 55,000 members are women milk farmers
